Leaning in this direction. Maybe my high contrast phase is over?
My Favorite Type Of Street Photography?
The more I shoot, the more I’m drawn towards everyday scenes, with everyday people and trying to make a good photo from it. The obvious and extravagant isn’t as exciting to me. I’d rather try to make something from nothing.
Is Protest Photography Worthwhile?
Nah, I find it mostly boring.
Josef Koudelka And Minimalism
He’s great at keeping the scene simple and easy to read.
Minimal Street Photography
Keepin’ it clean and easy to read with no distractions. Good lighting is a bonus.
Target Camera Selfie
Rule for selfies is whenever I see myself on a screen, window, etc… I take a photo to see what it looks like. The Target one is weird though. It’s a screen right above the self checkout. I’m just looking at myself while checking out. A bit odd but good for the selfie.

Santa Monica Highs And Lows
Sometimes, most of the time I’m walking around Santa Monica I’m thinking about how extreme this place is. The people here including myself just accept the daily insanity. I’ve noticed LA people are much more passive compared to east coasters. Just hanging on an island. Something goes down, don’t count on your neighbors.
Street Photography Is A Privilege And A Flex
Keep working those muscles.
A wise man once said: “If you don’t use it, you lose it.”
Street photography is a muscle to keep working out. Not only for evolution in the craft itself, but because it’s a symbol of freedom and expression. Many would say the greatest privilege is the privilege of speech without repression.
Quality and Efficiency In Workflow
What’s quality? A pleasing and sharp image? Good enough to print?
What’s efficiency? A library that is fast to maintain and process.
A happy medium between quality and speed.
Too much quality = too slow
Too fast = less quality
Meet me in the mid workflow.
I think my current workflow is the happy medium.
What’s A High Level Keeper?
My general rule is about 5% of photos I take are keepers. Sometimes, lower, sometimes higher. My methodology for a keeper is simple. I glance at it and if it looks nice then I keep it. If it doesn’t, it’s deleted forever. But to me, there’s a difference between a low and high level keeper. A low level keeper would probably need other photos around it to fit into a project. A high level keeper can stand on its own with no context. This photo I consider a high level keeper. The composition, story, moment, juxtaposition, contrast and luck. I like everything about it. Some might have a different opinion. But we are in America baby, no hard feelings if you feel different.
