You know when the best day of your life is going to be?
Tomorrow.
Tomorrow will be the best day of your life.
And this is a powerful mindset that actually helps tremendously with photography.
Think about it: tomorrow is going to be the best day of your life, and the next photo you take is going to be the best photo you’ve ever taken.
Always having that positive mindset is powerful.
I was out taking photos near a mechanic shop, and I stopped to photograph some flowers. Nothing special. And normally, if you’re doing street photography, do you ever take photos of flowers?
I bet 99% of you would probably say no.
But here’s why it’s important to take photos of the flowers.
As soon as I finished photographing them, this guy named Jesse said, “Hey man, I planted those.”
That opened up a conversation.
Jesse and I ended up talking for a long time. Super cool guy. He was telling me how much he loves Halloween, and eventually our conversation led to me taking a couple of portraits of him.
So me taking a photograph of some flowers ultimately led to me meeting Jesse and taking his portrait.
And the reason I took a photo of those flowers in the first place, and honestly the reason I’m even out here doing photography, is because I always believe the next photo I’m going to take could be my best photo.
That’s what keeps me motivated. It keeps me taking photographs.
If you’re constantly dooming, depressed, or making excuses about your life, you’ve got to get yourself out of that mindset.
Once you understand that a lot of things in our lives are within our own control and that we can change them, it’s very powerful.
Having that positive frame of mind led to me having a great conversation with Jesse and taking some good photographs.
And when we finished talking and were shaking hands, I told him exactly what I said at the beginning of this video.
I said, “Jesse, you know when the best day of your life’s going to be?”
He’s like, “When?”
I said, “Tomorrow.”
And once you really start thinking about that, it’s such a powerful way to look at life.
If you go through life believing that, you’re going to have more opportunities. You’re going to be a more positive person. People are going to want to engage with you.
And ultimately, that’s going to lead to better photography.
Your best day is tomorrow.
And your best photograph?
That’s the next one you take.
Thanks for watching.
