I just want to give a shout out to 7-Eleven large coffee for $1.49. And you think it’s 7-Eleven coffee and it’s no good, but let me tell you, it is quite delicious. And for $1.49 for a large, you can’t beat that.
So yeah, I usually try to go to a 7-Eleven as much as possible. Not only for the coffee, but for the experience that happens in 7-Eleven. And if you are from this area, you know all about the 7-Elevens. And there’s always some characters outside of 7-Eleven.
I just made a cool one. I’m going to start recording these eventually. I don’t know. I feel way more comfortable photographing strangers than I do taking video of them. But this guy, Jonathan. Let me show him to you.
I took this photo of him first.
Obviously, he’s a homeless guy, right? Probably addicted to drugs. But you can see right there, he saw me taking his photo and he instantly said, “What kind of camera is that?” And we just started talking.
The guy was just such a nice kid. I mean, he’s probably in his early twenties. I’m old enough to be the guy’s dad, but you can tell he’s just such a nice kid. My heart just goes out to him.
Then I noticed he had a blowtorch. I don’t know why, but all these homeless people seem to have an obsession with blowtorches. So I started taking a photo of him with the blowtorch.
Yeah, I really like this one. Look at that.
That’s a cool photo, but it probably doesn’t put him in the best light.
Then we started taking photos. He got his guitar out.
He took his hoodie off for me and started playing guitar, and we just started talking about music.
And wouldn’t you know it, me and Jonathan both absolutely love Soundgarden. I love Soundgarden. Probably my favorite band of all time. And he said that was his favorite band of all time too.
We had a nice little bonding moment over Soundgarden.
I asked him, “Hey man, do you want me to get you anything from 7-Eleven?”
Of course. What did he say?
“Cigarettes.”
So I went and bought him a pack of smokes. That stuff is like ten dollars a pack out here. I was like, “Damn dude, you’re expensive.”
But I still got it for him.
As I’m buying him the cigarettes, I’m thinking of a Soundgarden song. The first song that came to me was Burden in My Hand.
And I was thinking, those cigarettes are a burden in your hand.
So I played it for Jonathan.
I don’t want to be preachy toward him. I mean, the guy’s living a rough life. What am I going to do, sit there and lecture him about smoking? I bought him the damn cigarettes.
I can’t lecture him about them.
But I was like, “Bro, listen to this song.”
He listened to it, and he understood what I was trying to subconsciously tell him.
So yeah.
Anyways, nice little moment between me and Jonathan. Got some cool little photos.
