PLAY EVERY DAY

What the hell have we got going on?

Random Sunday on the Promenade.

Marine layer.

And we’ve got some action.

There’s a mariachi band over here.

Let’s go.

I’m going to take a couple photos.

This guy’s ready. He’s got his video ready to roll.

I’m ready too.

Street photography moment.

This is where you make it happen.

YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU’LL FIND

That’s one of the reasons I like going out and taking photos all the time.

You just never know what’s going to happen.

You can walk the same streets over and over again.

Most days nothing crazy happens.

Then you come out on some random Sunday and suddenly there’s a mariachi band performing on the Promenade.

So I start taking photos.

That’s the whole game.

You have to be out here.

You have to give yourself the opportunity for something unexpected to happen.

SLEEPY SANTA MONICA COMES THROUGH

Now we’ve got something else happening.

Looks like some kind of runners club.

I’ve never seen this before.

That’s a nice little surprise.

And that’s what makes walking around with a camera fun.

You don’t really need a plan.

Go outside.

Walk.

Look around.

Play.

See what happens.

Sometimes nothing happens.

Sometimes you’re photographing a shadow, a fence, or something lying on the ground.

And sometimes a mariachi band appears.

That’s why I keep going out.

You never know what you’ll find.

Sleepy Santa Monica coming through.
