Yesterday I did some major spring cleaning. I went through my closet and bagged up about 30 pounds of clothing and hauled it to the donation box. Afterwards I went for my daily photo walk with my GRiii and was thinking about the GRiiix which I love. After my closet clean, I was thinking about why I need the GRiiix at all. It’s a great camera. If you don’t need a 28mm, then that’s your ticket. Since I’m shooting in JPEG small and using crop mode extensively which means that any photo I take with the GRiii at 28, 35 or 50mm will all have the same amount of pixels. Meaning the GRiiix at 40, 50 and 71mm will also have the same amount of pixels. So essentially, the ONLY reason to have the GRiiix for me is the 71mm crop mode since the GRiii can shoot at 35 or 50mm crop which is close enough for me to 40mm on the GRiiix. Not worth the extra 1k for a 71mm crop.
Ultimately, I hope the GRIV will have more megapixels so I can have another crop mode to play with. The GRiii is more than enough for me, but always nice to have more options. Matching the Q3 and having between 28-90mm options on one small point and shoot camera would be insane.
