My Favorite Grunge Bands Growing Up

I’m not sure how I was introduced to grunge music, but it’s all I listened to growing up starting at around age 12. The following in order are my favorite bands.

  1. Soundgarden
  2. Alice in Chains
  3. Stone Temple Pilots
  4. Temple of the Dog
  5. Audioslave
  6. Pearl Jam
  7. Nirvana

Three of my top five have Chris Cornell as lead. His voice is amazing. Alice in Chains is a close second. Lane Staley is on another level. Their MTV Unplugged album is spectacular. STP third because I listened to the Core about a million times. Pearl Jam and Nirvana were my least favorite. Maybe because they were more popular and played out in my mind. Sadly, four of the five singers have passed away.

  1. It’s interesting that with all my love for rock’n’roll (it’s what I call all my favorite genres), grunge never touched my heart. I grew up on Black Sabbath, AC/DC, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Rainbow, Queen, Pink Floyd, Nazareth, and Smokie. Not many were known to kids in the far hole of my living location. After this was Metal, Stoner, Blues again, neo-psychedelic wave from Austin, a little bit of progressive like The Mars Volta, and many others. Right now all of these, but again – never grunge. The only band of this genre I love is Mad Season Supergroup. But they are something absolutely different.

  2. Cool how we all fall into music. I especially like Led Zeppelin and Queen. I think Zeppelin were my favorite but Soundgarden won out as it was associated with my childhood. Check out the Soundgarden post before this one. The first song listed is a jam. You might be a new fan 🙂
